Moving Questions, Answered

Everything you need to know before, during, and after your move — clear answers from our experienced team.

How do I get an accurate moving estimate?

The most reliable way is to schedule an on-site walkthrough. A crew lead visits your home, reviews every room and item, and delivers a written quote based on what is actually there. Phone and online estimates can be a starting point, but an in-person assessment gives you the most accurate number before you commit.

What is the difference between a binding and a non-binding estimate?

A binding estimate locks in the price regardless of how long the job takes or how much the load weighs. A non-binding estimate is an approximation — the final bill may be higher or lower depending on actual time and weight. We always clarify which type applies before any work begins.

Do I need to be present during the entire move?

You do not have to be there the entire time, but we recommend being available at the start and end of the job. At the start, we walk through the inventory with you and confirm what gets loaded. At delivery, we place items where you want them and do a final walkthrough together.

Can I pack my own boxes and still use your moving service?

Absolutely. Many customers pack themselves and use us for loading, transport, and unloading only. Just make sure boxes are properly sealed and labeled by room. Keep in mind that our liability coverage applies to boxes we pack ourselves — self-packed boxes are transported at owner’s risk.

What should I do with items I do not want to move?

Sort those items before moving day. Donate, sell, or dispose of anything you are leaving behind so the crew is not wasting time working around items that are not going. The less we move, the faster and more affordable your job will be.

How do I choose the right truck size for my move?

Your coordinator will recommend the right truck based on your inventory. As a general rule, a studio or one-bedroom fits in a 16 ft truck, a two to three bedroom home typically needs a 20–24 ft truck, and larger homes require 26 ft or multiple trips. We bring the right vehicle so you are never paying for unused space or making unnecessary runs.

Can you move items from a storage unit?

Yes. We regularly move items directly from storage facilities — loading from your unit, transporting to the destination, and placing everything where it needs to go. Let us know the facility name and unit access details when you book.

What happens if my move takes longer than estimated?

For hourly moves, you pay for the actual time used. If the job runs over the estimate, your coordinator will let you know as early as possible so there are no surprises. We work efficiently and never slow down to run up the clock.

Do you charge extra for moving up or down stairs?

Staircase fees vary by company. We build stair access into our quote during the estimate process so you know exactly what to expect. There are no fees added at the end that were not disclosed upfront.

How do you protect floors and walls during the move?

We use floor runners, corner guards, and door frame protectors on every job. Furniture is fully wrapped in moving blankets and stretch wrap before it leaves any room. We treat your home the same way we would treat our own.

Can you move a single large item without booking a full move?

Yes. If you need one piece of furniture, an appliance, or a specialty item moved, we can help. Our hourly crews are available for single-item jobs — just describe what you have and we will confirm availability and pricing.

What should I label on my boxes to make unpacking easier?

Write the destination room on every side of the box, not just the top. Add a brief contents note — for example, “Kitchen — glassware” or “Bedroom 2 — linens.” If a box contains fragile items, mark it clearly on all sides. This helps our crew place everything in the right room without asking repeatedly.

Do you move appliances that are still connected?

We move appliances, but disconnecting and reconnecting gas lines, water lines, and electrical hardwiring needs to be handled by a licensed professional beforehand. We can disconnect and reconnect standard dryer vents and refrigerator water lines — ask your coordinator what is covered for your specific appliances.

Can you accommodate a split delivery — dropping items at two different addresses?

Yes, we can make stops at multiple destinations on the same job. Let us know about additional drop-off addresses when you book so we can plan the route and adjust the estimate accordingly.

What is the best way to move a large wardrobe or armoire?

We recommend removing shelving, drawers, and any loose interior components before moving day. Our crew will wrap the exterior fully and use proper lifting techniques for safe transport. If the piece needs to be disassembled to fit through a doorway, we handle that on-site at no extra charge.

How do you handle moves into buildings with elevator restrictions?

We coordinate directly with your building management before moving day to reserve elevator access, confirm loading dock availability, and understand any time restrictions. Buildings in downtown Sacramento and surrounding areas often have specific rules — we know how to navigate them without causing delays.

What is the typical timeline for a two-bedroom apartment move?

Most two-bedroom apartment moves within the same city take between three and five hours, depending on floor access, the amount of furniture, and how far the truck needs to travel between locations. Your coordinator will give you a tighter estimate after reviewing your specific situation.

Can I move during the winter months in Sacramento?

Absolutely. Winter is actually one of the better times to move in Sacramento — temperatures are cooler, demand is lower, and you often have more scheduling flexibility. The rainy season runs from November through March, so we take extra precautions to keep your belongings dry during loading and unloading.

Do you offer packing services for just part of my home?

Yes. You can book partial packing for specific areas — the kitchen, fragile items, a home office, or any rooms you prefer to leave to the professionals. You handle the rest yourself. This is a popular option for customers who want expert packing for their most valuable or breakable items.

How should I prepare large furniture for moving day?

Remove all items from drawers and shelves — weight adds up fast and drawers can slide open during transport. Tape or secure any doors that might swing open. If you have glass tabletops or mirror panels, let us know in advance so we bring the right padding materials.

What documents should I keep handy on moving day?

Have your written estimate, any building move-in or move-out permits, elevator reservation confirmations, and a contact number for building management within easy reach. If you are moving long-distance, also keep your delivery window confirmation and inventory list accessible.

Can you move a hot tub or spa?

Yes, with the right crew and equipment. Hot tubs require proper draining before transport, and the move itself requires a team trained in heavy, awkward loads. Give us the dimensions and weight when you book so we assign the correct number of movers and bring the appropriate dolly and strapping gear.

What is the best way to move a large television?

Flat-screen televisions are best transported in their original box with the foam inserts. If you no longer have the box, we use specialized TV boxes with custom foam to protect the screen. Never lay a flat-screen face-down during transport — we always keep them vertical.

Do you provide moving services for senior living facilities or retirement communities?

Yes. We work with residents transitioning into assisted living, independent senior communities, and retirement facilities throughout the Sacramento area. Our crews are trained to work patiently and respectfully in these environments and coordinate with facility staff on scheduling and access.

What should I do if I need to reschedule or cancel my move?

Contact us as early as possible. We understand that plans change and we work with customers to find an alternative date that fits. Cancellation and rescheduling policies depend on how close to the original move date the change is requested — your coordinator will walk you through the terms when you book.

How do I know if a moving company is legitimate and not a scam?

A legitimate mover will always provide a written estimate, carry proper licensing through the FMCSA or state DOT, and have verifiable reviews on third-party platforms. Be cautious of companies that demand large cash deposits, refuse to provide a written quote, or give an estimate without seeing your inventory. We are fully licensed, insured, and transparent about our process from the very first conversation.
